Consistent coverage on a tense issue.

UMFA VP Janet Morrill, U of M student Taylor Crawley, and CUPW President Basia Sokal join me to talk coverage of the recent strike at the University of Winnipeg. The strike took place for a number of reasons, some of which the news media didn’t wholly represent. The word “students” is used a lot, and in many cases, they’re painted as victims. We discover some general trends in how news media represents strike situations.

We continue to run into the issues of money and time in journalism. Some coverage got facts wrong while covering the strike, or spoke with people not related to the ongoing strike. We discussed whether it’s the journalist or the system that’s getting in the way of accurate reporting on time-sensitive issues.
